Helping Disabled Young Adults Live Their Best Lives
The Fantastic Freddie Foundation recognises that equipment and resources for young people with complex needs are often difficult to source and very expensive. Our ethos is to increase the quality of individual lives, with fun and leisure being at the forefront of activities. However, we aim to promote opportunities for funding or advice that contribute to family life and wellbeing wherever possible.
The foundation is not able to fund individual projects but will happily cooperate with others to provide advice and access to funding. Many charities and organisations give grants to disabled people to help them with a variety of things from funding for equipment to a short break or holiday.
Although The FFF does not make grants, you can use this page for information and support on what grants are available and where you can find them. It is always a good idea to apply for a grant through your local council first, whatever it is for.
Some charities and organisations require you to have applied for all available state or local authority funding before applying with them. You can find your local authority here:
Our service users have told us the disadvantage they face when dating, and not having many opportunities to meet people heightens this disadvantage further. We acknowledge this and want to help as much as possible. Along side the FFF providing good social opportunities to meet people - we have provided a list of dating sites for people with disabilities.
Take a read of these blogs that cover some dating tips for the disabled:
If you need to make your home more accessible by altering it, or need new facilities to make your life more comfortable you can apply for a grant to make this possible through your local council. You can apply for one of these grants for things such as (but not limited to):
Ensure that you apply for the grant before you start the work, as you will not be eligible for a grant if you apply for it after you have started.

Grants for equipment that most disabled people need to live their lives are readily available. These can cover items from wheelchairs to bathroom equipment.
Most equipment should be free when going through your local authority, however you will need to ask for a social care need assessment first.
For information on how to get a social care needs assessment you can visit: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/social-care-and-support-guide/help-from-social-services-and-charities/getting-a-needs-assessment/.
And you can apply through this link: https://www.gov.uk/apply-needs-assessment-social-services
Once you have done this contact your Local Council and apply for an equipment grant

If you are struggling to find affordable accessible transport, then it’s a good idea to look at grants for disability vehicles.
The Motability Foundation has many options for charitable grants. Their Motability scheme grant programme ‘provides financial support to disabled people who want to join the Motability Scheme but who need help with the cost of Advance Payments and adaptations.’
You can follow this link for more information on this grant programme: https://www.motabilityfoundation.org.uk/charitable-grants/scheme-related-grant-programmes/
They also operate an Access to Motability grant programme that ‘provides financial help towards mobility support for disabled people, outside of the Motability Scheme.’
You can read more about this grants programme through this link:
https://www.motabilityfoundation.org.uk/charitable-grants/scheme-related-grant-programmes/
If you already have a vehicle, but need to make changes to it to suit your changing accessibility needs then their Bespoke Passenger Solutions Grant Programmes might be for you. This grant ‘can provide changing facilities, including hoisting and privacy, inside a large WAV’.
If you think this is what you need then refer to this link to find out more information:
