We are thrilled to have taken 12 young budding DJ's onto the full years course. A monthly Lesson, Equipment discounts, access to brand new equipment and the chance to play live at summer festivals!
Although the course is full, keep an eye out for our regular drop ins listed on our Sessions and Bookings page. These are a great chance to try the basics and get a feel for being a DJ - join us at one of these to see if this interests you!
The 2025/26 cohort has now been filled. We will start recruiting for next year in September 2026.

This project is being run by The Fantastic Freddie Foundation alongside Legendary Garage DJ Scott Garcia and his brand It’s a London Thing.
Alongside Scott, we are privileged to be working with DJ Shy Cookie and AlphaTheta, who are powering the initiative.

The It’s a London Thing DJ Academy is all about helping young people in the disabled community reach their potential and try new things. Ensuring that everyone, no matter their perceived ability is able to partake in activities they want to, without barriers. We want to capture hearts and minds about the talents of this community and show what can be done when a safe and inclusive space is created.

The training program is designed by DJ Shy Cookie who has a wealth of experience in the music industry and with the disabled community.
To make it completely accessible and inclusive, each person will learn on their own time frame and have a personalised lesson plan. When people hit milestones they will receive certification - these will also be tailored to each individual.
All sessions are tailored to those with additional needs and we can cater to all abilities.

“I’m incredibly proud to be giving something back to the community I grew up in. Music has always been more than entertainment — it’s a powerful form of therapy, creativity, and connection. I believe strongly that people of all abilities should have the opportunity to explore and enjoy those benefits.
With this academy, my hope is that we can continue to grow and provide even more opportunities for young adults to discover the joy of music and unlock their potential.”
